TOPPING OUT MARKS
END OF MAJOR BUILDING WORKS ON SITE,
October 2006

Marriott Construction
marked the end of the main construction
phase building works at Nottingham
development Lace Market Square on
17 October.
The Lace Market's newest mixed use
development is fast taking shape and
the shell building work at Lace Market
Square is now complete with internal
fit-out well underway. Work begins
in January on the innovative central
public piazza, ready for completion
of the in spring 2007.
This £10+m contemporary scheme,
designed by architects Franklin Ellis,
and developed by local developer Bildurn
Properties comprises 46 high-quality
apartments, bar / restaurant space
and secure underground parking.
Franklin Ellis, are well known for
their work on, amongst others, the
Paul Smith shop in Nottingham and
retail and residential developments
at Castlewharf, Stoney Street and
Sneinton Market.
The one, two and three bedroom apartments
and a penthouse are all based around
a central 11,000 sq ft public square.
The first open space of its kind in
the Lace Market, its sculptural metal
trees, green foliage and high quality
seating and paving designed by award
winning landscape design team Wolfgang
and Heron.
Nottingham City Council is particularly
supportive of this new urban public
square, which will be at the heart
of the Lace Market. An outdoor space
in the Lace Market has been something
Nottingham City Council has wanted
for some considerable time.
Adrian Jones, Acting Corporate Director
of City Development at Nottingham
City Council, said: "There is
currently no public square in the
Lace Market and we've been keen to
create one in this historical area
of intensive development. Bildurn
has been liaising closely with us
in order to redress the balance. Now
that the main construction work is
complete everyone can see how this
scheme is sympathetic to the Lace
Market yet brings a new dimension
to the area."
Peter Hawes, Director of Marriott
Construction, hosted the event on
site, and commented. "We're delighted
that this construction project has
gone according to plan and to timetable.
Being in the centre of a lively historic
area of the city held a series of
challenges but the team has worked
exceptionally well and pulled together
throughout to bring this project almost
to a close."
