Part
of The Pod, Bildurn's £25m
retail and leisure development,
will be a stunning and unusual
3,799 sq ft roof top bar / restaurant.
Construction
of The Pod, in the Lace Market,
is well underway and handover
is due in spring 2007 ready
for trade in summer. This will
be Nottingham's second only
roof top facility, the other
being Saltwater Restaurant at
The Cornerhouse.
The bar is
being marketed as "The
Sky Bar" named after the
celebrity hang-out on L.A.'s
Sunset Boulevard which was the
creation of Randy Gerber, the
husband of supermodel Cindy
Crawford.
The L.A. Sky
Bar (at the top of the Mondrian
Hotel) is one of the hottest
night spots in town where stars
lounge poolside and enjoying
spectacular views of L.A. below.
Mel Gibson, Holly Hunter, Neve
Campbell, Jacqueline Bisset,
Elle Macpherson, Anna Nicole
Smith, Joely Fisher, Oliver
Stone, Quincy Jones and Gabriel
Byrne have all been spotted
there recently.
Nottingham's "Sky Bar"
will comprise accommodation
on two floors plus an external
terrace with views to the west
of the Lace Market towards Nottingham
Castle. The bar / restaurant
will be fully self-contained
with its own private entrance
off Bottle Lane, accessible
from both Bridlesmith Gate and
Fletchergate.
The Pod's
108,000 sq ft retail and leisure
space will house three levels
of large retail units aimed
at the fashion sector and larger
space users. A 142 bedroom hotel
- the most central hotel in
Nottingham - will occupy the
upper floors.
The eye-catching
new scheme was designed by top
London architects Benson+Forsythe
and will provide a central focus
in one of the most sought-after
parts of Nottingham, linking
the fashion district of Bridlesmith
Gate to the trendy Lace Market.
