RETAIL
GIANT TO BRING NEW FITNESS CONCEPT
TO NETHERFIELD, June 2007

Netherfield
(in Nottingham) is to get a
major boost with the arrival
of a new destination store and
fitness club - the first of
its kind in Nottinghamshire.
Sporting equipment
retail giant JJB has hoping
that it will be able to expand
onto a new 35,520 sq ft (3,300
sq m) site on Victoria Retail
Park. The exciting new venture
will combine a superstore that
brings with it an innovative
new concept fitness club. This
JJB Fitness Club will be Netherfield's
first fully comprehensive fitness
club.
There are currently 44 successful
clubs throughout the UK, with
Llanelli and Thanet opening
soon. The concept for the JJB
Fitness Clubs is that it offers
something for everyone at whatever
fitness level, in quality surroundings
at a price that cannot be matched.
All the current clubs around
the UK provide good size swimming
pools, fully equipped air-conditioned
gym, free weight areas, fibre
optic lit steam rooms, aerobic
classes, at no extra charge
plus lounge and members bar.
Local developers, Bildurn Properties
who own the site, are delighted
that JJB wants to come to Netherfield,
which will be a great boost
to the area and superb new state
of the art facility. The value
of the scheme is thought to
exceed £10 million on
completion.
Barry Dunn, JJB's Property Director
commented "JJB Sports have
been looking for some time for
a suitable site in this area
to roll out the new retail/health
club concept. This location
is ideal and we therefore look
forward to another successful
club opening soon."
JJB now trades from over 450
stores nationwide whose principal
aim is to supply high quality
sports clothing, footwear, replica
kit, bikes and fitness / golf
equipment at competitive prices.
JJB currently has three stores
in Nottingham, at Lady Bay Retail
Park, Riverside Retail Park
and also at Lower Parliament
Street. Currently there are
no sporting stores at Victoria
Retail Park.
According to the company's corporate
website, "JJB Sports, the
UK's number one sports retailer
have an expanding Leisure Division
which includes a number of fitness
clubs throughout the UK the
majority. The success of this
concept lies in the attractiveness
to members of providing a well
equipped gym and the dual income
streams results in our ability
to offer great value-for-money
membership fees."
The 237, 882 sq ft (22,100 sq
mt) retail park is home to established
companies such as B&Q, Morrisons
and Halfords and this new addition
will bring a completely new
feel to the site, offering consumers
a unique experience.
Bildurn Properties
currently has two other exciting
new city schemes on the cusp
of completion. The first is
Lace Market Square, a residential
and mixed use development which
has just been completed, plus
The Pod, a leisure scheme, due
for completion in the autumn.
Director of
Bildurn Properties, Sean Akins,
commented: "Naturally,
we're thrilled to have the chance
to bring such an innovative
concept to the area. We are
in no doubt that JJB will not
only fit in with the other stores
on Victoria Park but it will
boost the reputation of the
site and will bring a great
new facility to Netherfield."
Bildurn has
been working closely with Ray
Valenti at commercial agents
Nattrass Giles.
